The Journal of Vascular and Interventional Radiology (JVIR) is the official scientific journal of the Society of Interventional Radiology. JVIR Author Interview/Podcasts Now Available

The Journal of Vascular and Interventional Radiology has launched a new feature: monthly audio (or video) discussions with authors regarding current journal articles.

Ziv J Haskal, M.D., FSIR, JVIR editor, and Robert K.W. Ryu, M.D., FSIR, JVIR's new media editor, produce the short, focused interviews that are intended to delve into study rationale and design and implications of results for current practice and future research. These broadcasts deliver current and controversial content, meeting briefing and communications.

Journal of Vascular and Interventional Radiology Debuts New Look, Reflects Global Impact

The Journal of Vascular and Interventional Radiology -- the monthly, peer-reviewed flagship publication of the Society of Interventional Radiology -- announced several major changes for 2011 -- all directed at highlighting the global impact of this minimally invasive medical specialty and its lead journal.

"Changes have been made to further enhance the Journal of Vascular and Interventional Radiology's core strengths, particularly to streamline its editorial process. My target goal is 30 days for time to first decision for new manuscripts," said new editor-in-chief Ziv J Haskal, M.D., FSIR. "JVIR is a vigorous engine for rapid peer review and delivery of the most novel and impactful, global, cutting-edge, basic science research, clinical reports and evidence-based medicine -- JVIR aims to build on that legacy," explained Haskal.

Society of Interventional Radiology Advances Global Definition of Specialty, Benefits Patients

The Society of Interventional Radiology, with the support of 41 international societies representing 10,000 interventional radiology doctors, has issued the first global statement defining interventional radiology-one designed to benefit medical treatment for individuals. The statement addresses the evolution, impact and future direction of this minimally invasive specialty, emphasizing the worldwide availability of this specialized medical care. The statement, the result of more than two years of collaborative work, is being co-published in August as a "Special Communications" in SIR's Journal of Vascular and Interventional Radiology and in the Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiological Society of Europe's journal.

JVIR has been named the official journal of ISET (International Symposium on Endovascular Therapy).

JVIR Endorses CONSORT Statement

JVIR endorses the CONSORT (Consolidated Standards of Reporting Trials) Statement. The CONSORT Statement contains criteria developed to improve the quality of published reports of randomized clinical trials. The current criteria consist of a 22-item checklist that pertains to the various sections of a report of a clinical trial (Title, Abstract, Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion).

Beginning Oct. 1, when submitting a manuscript reporting a randomized controlled trial, authors are strongly encouraged to upload the CONSORT criteria checklist and flow diagram and to attach the completed checklist to their submission. These elements will not be mandatory initially. For more information on the CONSORT Statement and templates for the checklist and flowchart diagram, please visit www.consort-statement.org/home.

JVIR Launches International Affiliate Program

In July 2009, JVIR launched the International Affiliate Program that allows nonmembers of SIR who live outside of the United States, Canada and Mexico to purchase online-only access to the journal. JVIR is also a participant in the HINARI program, which provides discounted journal subscriptions to institutions in developing countries.

JVIR publishes SIR’s Reporting Standards documents. These documents are freely available to the public.
JVIR releases several supplements each year. In 2009, this included a collection of the most up-to-date Standards Division Guidelines.
Subscribers have access to special e-collections produced by the journal, the first of which focuses on Uterine Artery Embolization.
Through its publisher, JVIR is compliant with NIH funding mandates for providing articles to a centralized database.
