Society of Interventional Radiology names Alda L. Tam, MD, FSIR, president for 2023–2024
Other key leaders of SIR and SIR Foundation announced
PHOENIX (March 8, 2023)— Alda L. Tam, MD, FSIR, an interventional radiologist and professor in the Department of Interventional Radiology at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, assumed the office of president of the Society of Interventional Radiology (SIR) on March 7, during the society’s annual Members’ Business Meeting. The meeting was held during the SIR 2023 Annual Scientific Meeting in Phoenix.
“This is an exciting time for our specialty. SIR is about to celebrate its 50th anniversary, our first classes of IR residents are graduating, and our specialty is growing and maturing at a rapid pace. In response, SIR and SIR Foundation are investing in tools, education, research and resources to ensure we continue this forward momentum,” said Tam. “I look forward to working with members at across SIR to ensure our seat at the table so we can deliver the best for our patients.”
Other incoming officers of SIR’s 2023–2024 Board of Directors include President-elect Robert J. Lewandowski, MD, FSIR, Northwestern Medicine, Chicago; newly-elected Secretary Robert A. Lookstein, MD, FSIR, Mount Sinai Medical Center, New York; and Immediate Past-president Parag J. Patel, MD, MS, FSIR, Medical College of Wisconsin, Milwaukee.

The SIR Foundation board appointed Maureen P. Kohi, MD, FSIR, as the chair of the SIR Foundation Board of Directors. She is the Ernest H. Wood Distinguished Professor and chair of the Department of Radiology at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
“I am honored and pleased to lead SIR Foundation at this time of growth and change as we continue to drive the research, education, and innovation necessary to build the future of interventional radiology,” Kohi said.
