Vacant Position
The Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in NYC
The Integrated IR/DR residency training program at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in NYC is expanding!!!
We have 2 new positions open for current PGY-3 and PGY-4 residents. Our five-year program is an advanced position residency that starts in the PGY-2 year. Candidates need to be in good standing in a DR or IR/DR integrated program in order to apply.
Across our health system, we perform over 10,000 procedures annually over a wide variety of service lines including oncology, hepatobiliary, transplant, vascular, venous thromboembolic disease, cerebrovascular, genitourinary, women’s health, lymphatics, pain management, pediatrics, and trauma. Our 10 full time faculty and 9 Advanced Practice Providers provide care and perform procedures in our 14 fixed fluoroscopy suites with state-of-the-art Phillips and Siemens units equipped with the most up-to-date software. In addition, we have four CT procedure rooms and four mobile C-arm based procedural areas, one of which serves as a dedicated office-based laboratory (OBL). Mount Sinai Hospital is our primary site for oncologic, hepatobiliary, and transplant interventions, while our genitourinary and women’s health practice is based out of Mount Sinai West. Residents also rotate at Mount Sinai Downtown, Mount Sinai Queens and Mount Sinai Morningside during their training.
As residents develop and strengthen their interpretive and interventional skills over the course of residency, their responsibilities become more complex. Our goal is to train Interventional Radiologists to provide comprehensive patient care through safe, efficient, appropriately utilized, quality-controlled Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology techniques. By gradually increasing resident autonomy, we develop the proficiency and confidence necessary for complex clinical evaluation and interventions.
Currently, our residents complete 70 weeks of Interventional Radiology rotations prior to the start of their PGY-6 year, providing ample exposure to a wide range of cases and procedures. Specific goals in IR training include providing consultation, performing vascular and interventional procedures, identifying, and managing potential complications, providing appropriate periprocedural care, and assisting in long-term patient management.
We offer a wide range of educational opportunities to provide residents with a comprehensive and engaging training experience. Our Interventional Radiology curriculum includes an extensive classroom component with daily morning conferences. Residents participate in faculty and peer lectures, a weekly journal club, a combined vascular surgery conference, morbidity and mortality meetings, hepatobiliary tumor board, industry in-service education, and a robust dedicated IR grand rounds series.
Our junior residents are scheduled for 4-6 weeks of buddy call with a senior resident/fellow as well as experience in our dedicated IR clinic prior to the start of their full IR years. In the final two years, residents rotate with vascular surgery and a world-renowned vascular medicine group to gain a deeper understanding of vascular anatomy, pathology, and treatment options. Residents are encouraged to complete training for the Registered Physicians in Vascular Interpretation (RPVI) certification during their R4 year, further advancing their expertise in vascular medicine.

Our program values research and encourages all residents to engage in scholarly activities throughout their training. Residents have numerous opportunities to participate in research projects, with most presenting their work at one or more national conferences per year. Each resident is required to complete at least one scholarly activity and one quality improvement project during their training. Integrated IR residents are assigned a faculty mentor who assists with generating project ideas, collaborating with other specialties, and manuscript writing.
To provide a strong foundation for research, our program includes didactic content on study design, biostatistics, and ethics in research, delivered by medical school researchers, internal faculty, and guest lecturers. Statisticians and informaticians are also available to assist residents as needed.
Our department provides a $2500 stipend for any conference at which residents present their research. We are proud to have one of the highest number of accepted abstracts at the Society of Interventional Radiology Annual Scientific Meeting every year. In recent years, fellows and residents within the IR program have attended and presented at the following national conferences:
• Society of Interventional Radiology (SIR)
• World Conference on Interventional Oncology (WCIO)
• International Symposium on Endovascular Therapy (ISET)
• Global Embolization Symposium and Technology (GEST)
• Conference on Interventional Oncology (CIO)
• Radiologic Society of North America (RSNA)
