SIR signs on to HIPPA security rule letter

SIR signed on to a Physician Clinical Registry Coalition comment letter regarding the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office for Civil Rights’ (OCR’s) proposed rule modifying the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) security rule. The rule would impact society-sponsored clinical data registries used in research and quality assurance programs.
While the coalition supports the efforts to shore up cybersecurity defenses in the face of increase cyberattacks on healthcare systems, the protocols proposed in the rule would create undo financial and administrative burdens for both covered entities and business associates.
