A recent survey from the Small and Rural Practice Committee shows that 90% of medical students and residents have a massive debt burden. Medical school debt is growing and the demand for specialty physicians continues to outpace the supply, especially in rural America. One can’t ignore the adverse effect that medical school debt has on the shortage—as well as the opportunity it offers for closing the gap.
