Clinical Specialty Councils
Clinical Specialty Councils are charged with advising and developing programs and services for SIR members on both image-guided procedures and non-procedural patient care.
The Society of Interventional Radiology Clinical Specialty Councils are charged with advising and developing programs and services for SIR members on both image-guided procedures and non-procedural patient care. Each Clinical Specialty Council shall provide critical assessment and oversight of the overall status of IR and of existing SIR activities within that clinical domain.
Additionally, the Clinical Specialty Councils are responsible for integrating with SIR and SIR Foundation efforts in clinical practice development, economics and health policy, research, quality, education/training, and communications into an overall development strategy for that clinical domain; and effectively communicate the Clinical Specialty Councils strategic direction to the other SIR divisions on an ongoing basis.
Annually, the clinical specialties shall provide advice on the following areas:
- Suggest topics for SIR Foundation research priorities
- Suggest topics for SIR standards development
- Identify gaps and needs in SIR education
- Review and monitor other societies in the clinical specialty space that SIR should be watching and/or collaborating with.
- Identify opportunities for intersociety and international outreach (i.e., multidisciplinary panels).

SIR Clinical Specialty Councils shall consist of a councilor, vice chair, functional division representatives and at-large members from SIR membership. Clinical specialty councilors are expected to serve a term of 2 years. Vice chairs are nominated by the SIR Nominating Committee and elected by SIR membership to serve a 2-year term before ascending into the role of councilor. Division representatives will serve a term of 3 years with the eligibility to be reappointed for an additional 3-year term. Representatives shall be appointed in collaboration with SIR division councilors and will follow the term per their role within the division committee. At-large volunteers shall be appointed by the SIR Board of Directors upon recommendation by the councilor and vice chair of the selected CSC. At-large volunteers shall serve a 3-year term with an opportunity for a 3-year reappointment.
Annually, SIR shall support an application period for all CSCs requesting new volunteers.
